Gihan Soliman, BA, PGCE, MSc, RSci, MI Soil Sci



Gihan {/Jihan/} Soliman has been a dedicated Trustee of the Permaculture Association Britain since 2018. She also serves as the Coordinator of the International Permaculture Network of Africa, Mediterranean, and the Middle East (IPNAMME), which has extended its reach to Latin America and the Caribbean as part of the Rio+20 Initiative. As a Registered Food Scientist (RSci) with the Institute of Food Science and Technology and a member of the IUCN Commission of Education and Communication (CEC), G Soliman brings a wealth of expertise to her roles.


Education:

•  MSc in Environment, Culture, and Society from the University of Edinburgh (2016)

•  Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, Lifelong Learning Sector from Teesside University (2013/2014).

•  PGC in Environment (Humanities) from Ain Shams University, Egypt (2011/2012)

•  B.A. in English from Benha University, Egypt (1989-1992)


Career Highlights:

G Soliman is known for her interdisciplinary research skills and her commitment to international environmental education for conservation. Her work has had a positive impact on sustainability and livelihoods, particularly in developing countries. She focuses on equality, permaculture, ecological engineering, ecological economy, and ecological ethics.


One of her notable achievements includes mobilizing resources to lead two significant projects in the global south, in partnership with multiple stakeholders and local communities. Coming from Africa herself, G Soliman has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with regenerative practices at multiple levels.


Current Projects:

•  Partner Scientist in the Fungal Conservation in Sub-Saharan Africa: sustainability and livelihood implications.

•  Partner Scientist in the Quinoa-associated fungi and bacteria in Bolivia: conservation and sustainable use.

Additionally, G Soliman contributes as a science reviewer in the field of Cybernetics and informatics and in the field of biodiversity (External review of the first order draft of the sustainable use of wild species thematic assessment 2019) and sustainable food production.
